Don't Wait to Protect Endangered Animals!

In 2002, The Species at Risk Act was passed to protect Canada’s plants and animals.  However, in the 12 years since the act was passed, 160 of the 345 animal species on the list still have no recovery strategy in place to protect them.

Many of the species on the list are not automatically protected by law, which requires the federal government to step in when a species is at risk.  Sound protection strategies to protect these species are necessary.  As time passes, these species are more and more at risk, especially from habitat loss. More swift action by the government could help preserve these species and fulfill the promises of The Species at Risk Act.
