Since its enactment in 1976, the Hyde Amendment has saved more than 2.4 million lives by prohibiting federal taxpayer funding of abortion through Medicaid. Calls within the Democratic Party to end Hyde are louder than ever, and it's time again for common sense Americans to make our voices heard. The Hyde Amendment prevents low-income parents who are disproportionately Black and brown from being coerced into an abortion by the state and it protects the American people from directly funding state-sanctioned violence against the marginalized among us.
Secular Pro-Life stands in solidarity with the survivors — children and adults who were born to parents on Medicaid rather than aborted thanks to this policy. Their lives have meaning and no one should be unjustly killed, especially on taxpayer dollars. Young Americans who have received Medicaid care agree: Medicaid should cover birth, not death.
