Speak Out About Rigged Jury in Death Penalty Case

Dylann Roof was just sentenced to death by execution. Even though what he did was horrendous and he certainly needs to be punished, his jury and all juries created to potentially sentence a person to death are rigged. That's because to be considered for a jury in a case where the death penalty could be the punishment, you have to be pro-death penalty.

Juries are supposed to be made up of the best representation of a given community. But this rule about eligibility automatically makes a lot of people unable to serve on certain juries. It also makes the likeliness of a death sentence outcome much higher. The death penalty is cruel and barbaric and this rule just makes it more likely to be used.

Because women and minorities are more likely to be against the death penalty, this rule also means that juries have fewer women and minorities in these cases. We need to demand this rule be revoked so that juries are selected more fairly and represent the communities in which they serve more accurately.
