Legalization of Ferrets In NYC

In 1999 Mayor Rudolph Giuliani banned ferrets in New York City. We believe ferrets have an undeserved reputation of being vicious, undomesticated animals. That is untrue. It is (or should be) a known fact that ferrets have been domesticated for at least 2,000 years. Confusing or substituting the word "weasel" for "ferret" is a scientifically innacurate mistake. While the two are related, weasels are wild animals which would most likely be troublesome house pets. From my experience I have learned ferrets do not (whatsoever) share the same "nasty" demeanor as their cousins.  Let it also be known that ferrets are said to be at least 5 times less likely to bite than cats and dogs. In forty-eight of the fifty states in the US ferrets are legal. The State of New York is among these. Unfortunately, in New York's five boroughs: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Staten Island, Queens and the Bronx, they are not. We would like you to join us in the fight for ferret legalization in New York City. People should do their research before making animals illegal. If they have one legitimate reason for banning ferrets then I want to hear it.
