Petition To Change the Current Gun Laws In America To Protect Our Citizens

In the United States, the gun laws are created and enforced by individual states. Criminals and high-risk buyers are able to easily obtain guns because of this. Not all of the states require a potential gun buyer to go through the process of a background check when purchasing from a private seller. Background checks need to be mandatory in all states and for all gun purchases (licensed and private sellers). It will be the seller’s responsibility to give the background check. When it comes to mass shootings the shooter is often diagnosed with a mental illness. In order to prevent mass shootings a clearer definition of “mentally ill” needs to be created so that it is easier for health professionals to report dangerous or violent activity that the patient suffering from mental illness is displaying. Semiautomatic handguns and assault weapons need to be more difficult to purchase. High-capacity magazines, a magazine that holds more than ten rounds, need to be limited so shooters are forced to reload more frequently; allowing time for escaping or counterattacking.
