We love Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, and have "Grown in Faith" over the years thanks large part to our Youth and Family ministers and awesome priests.
We are in danger of losing our most prized assets in the parish. Changes have occurred in the past 3 months that have put our youth and family ministries at risk.
Our youth ministry leader Karen Reynolds and adult ministry leader Patrick Rivera were advised that the rent they pay to the parish for their housing would be significantly increased. Our other youth ministry leader was advised that the housing stipend he receives was to be terminated. The rent was increased over 60%, and Zack’s stipend is to be phased out completed over the course of 90 days. Additionally, the management of the duplex was contracted out to a property management company, when it had historically always been managed “in house.”
OLA has implemented an organization change that results in the pastor’s involvement in various ministries being significantly scaled back. We believe this change is fundamentally flawed and, moreover, that it should not be taking place at a time when a new pastor will be installed. Despite the stated basis for these changes, they will impact OLA long after Fr. Correz is gone, and we do not believe it sensible for these things to be taking place at a time when the leadership of our parish is changing.
Based on these points, we the parishioners of OLA would like to see their contracts renewed with a direct report to the Pastor of Our Lady of the Assumption.
