Clean Public Space Act

As a mother, as a citizen and as a member of PTA I ask that our culture takes a serious look at the images we allow to be in public viewing spaces. My children as well as even myself have been affected by the graphic imagery that is allowed on everything from billboards to bus stops. Scary, racy and inappropriate ads, signs and posters have infiltrated our public spaces. Images that would not even make it on broadcast television are in plain sight of our whole community.

"Sex is free, Mommy what does that mean?" This was the uncomfortable beginning of a conversation with a six and eight year old about why the woman on the side of the building had her underwear around her ankles. Another example is the constant signage for paraphernalia for drug use. We would like to be able to go to our local eateries without worrying about having to explain what the giant tubes are used for. I understand these services are available in our society but their blatant availability for viewing to every member is not safe or ideal to a healthy community.

Please consider signing this to keep our streets and public viewing areas G-rated. We deserve to be able to go outside and feel comfortable and safe. Our community should be able to choose what happens in our homes and what we choose to watch and where we choose to go. However, the culture at large has no right to impose and advertise in such a way that children and individuals recovering from certain life vices are constantly put at risk.
