Tell Ecuador to Stop Persecuting Communities Protecting their Land from Mining Companies

Ecuador has unleashed a wave of repression against communities trying to protect their land from mining companies, according to a report on theecologist.org.

Andean communities are seeking to protect their lands and forest from open pit mining, with most of biodiversity-rich Intag region already conceded to international mining companies.

UN experts noted, "It seems Ecuador's government is systematically dissolving organisations when they become too vocal or challenge official orthodoxy".
