Repeal or Delay the Implementation of the Craven County Schools “Innovative Year Round” Calendar

On Thursday, 2/20/20, Craven County Schools board members held an “emergency” meeting during which they voted on and approved a new “innovative year round” calendar for 2020-2021. The issue is not necessarily with the proposed calendar itself, but that the stakeholders- students, parents and staff members were not informed or consulted, not given an opportunity to provide input, and were certainly not given enough notice to implement the new proposed schedule changes. MANY families already have summer plans (vacations, camps, visitation requirements, etc) which cannot be refunded or rescheduled. We are only asking that Craven County Schools show some courtesy to the families it serves by waiting to implement any changes until 2021-2022 School year, or repeal the new calendar altogether and LISTEN to what the stakeholders want.
