The Tomales Bay Ecological Reserve is a marshy, tidal wildlife sanctuary, home of many shorebirds, brown pelicans, wading birds, and waterfowl, and numerous other species of birds- many of them migratory.
The California Fish and Wildlife Service is permitting hunting of birds in the Marlin County reserve for 100 consecutive days through the fall and winter seasons. The reserve is adjacent to the Giacomini Wetlands Wildlife Sanctuary, established in an effort to improve habitat for wetland-dependent species.
Killing birds on a reserve and in a sanctuary is contrary to efforts of enhancing habitat for wetland-dependent species. Permitting the shooting of exhausted ducks and geese just as they try to reach the sanctuary is outrageous.
