Help to make mask-wearing in Niagara a MUST- and let the virus be crushed,

Covid 19 is not going away anytime soon . . . social distancing and hand-washing is no longer enough. Doctors and researchers are changing their message about masks. They admit they were wrong, and want people to act now. That’s why we’re asking you to sign our petition to present to Niagara Falls City Council, requesting that masks be mandatory in all public buildings in the city
Both the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization now recommend cloth masks for the general public. Yes, it’s the direct opposite to what they recommended when the pandemic was declared. Why the change in direction? It follows results from studies showing that the viral load peaks in the days before symptoms begin, and the simple act of speaking is enough to expel virus-carrying droplets. “We should have told people to wear cloth masks right off the bat.” (UC San Francisco epidemiologist George Rutherford, MD, and infectious disease specialist.)
Another convincing argument from the study showed that 80 per cent of the population wearing masks would do more to reduce COVID 19 spread than a strict lockdown. The Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation suggests that 33,000 deaths could be avoided by October 1st, if 95 percent of people wore masks in public
Although the benefits of wearing a mask appear clear to many of us, the majority of city council members are not in favour of the recommendation. True, it can be argued that mandatory wearing of masks is difficult to enforce. How much worse would it be to ignore these recent studies? Would that present the opening needed for the virus to make a resurgence?
Considering the increasing numbers of tourists visiting Niagara Falls, it is in the best interest of our collective health to mandate the wearing of face coverings in public buildings. We hope that you agree.
We thank you for considering our petition, and sincerely hope that you will add your name, and pass the word on to everyone you know.
