Petition to Oppose Mountain Lion Hunt in South Dakota

South Dakota 2013 hunting plans may decimate the state's only fragile colony of mountain lions.

The agency refuses to use public or peer-viewed science to sustain mountain lion population.

Under the North American model of wildlife conservation and management, wildlife collectively belongs to the people, and is held in trust by the government. But once again the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks and its accompanying Commission have proven themselves unworthy of managing South Dakota's mountain lion population.

During the 2011 mountain lion season, not only did the hunters exceed that year's quota by killing 73 lions, but 63 percent of those killed were females and 14 percent were kittens as young as 4 months old!
