Extremely Rare "Limerick Soviet" Five Shillings Note. Inscribed "April LIMERICK 1919/GENERAL STRIKE/AGAINST BRITISH MILITARISM/The Workers of Limerick/ Promise to Pay the bearer/5/- FIVE SHILLINGS 5/-/The Limerick Trades and Labour Council". Numbered 148 and signed in ink by George Cronin, Chairman, and James Casey, Treasurer, with stamp in violet "MECHANICS INSTITUTE/[shamrock motif]/LIMERICK. The strike was ended after two weeks when the Sinn Fein Lord Mayor Alphonsus O'Mara and the Catholic Bishop Denis Hallinan Called for the Strike to End. A proclamation was announced on the 27th April 1919 (Creased, Tear and Foxed)
