Recently, the U.S. cut millions of dollors of funding from innocent Palestinian refugees in need.
UNRWA provides free schooling to half-a-million impoverished Palestinian children in Gaza, the occupied West Bank and in camps like the one Mr Ghanam lives in Lebanon.
It also supplies healthcare to millions who could not afford it otherwise and food aid to nearly one million Palestinians living in poverty in Gaza. Palestinians in the West Bank have now spent 50 years under Israeli military control, and their daily lives are full of checkpoints, walls and patrols. The aid from organisations such as UNRWA is the only thing keeping many Palestinian refugees alive.
But the Trump administration has announced massive cuts to the UNRWA budget, freezing two planned payments worth more than $US 100 million. As the single largest contributor to UNRWA globally, this is an unprecedented and extremely dangerous decision that will cause untold additional trauma and harm to Palestine refugees in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank (including East Jerusalem), Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria, who rely on UNRWA's services.
