India: Ban Cosmetic Testing of Animals!

Because of India's high rate of vegetarianism, animal rights activists often hold the nation up as an example of ethical animal welfare standards. Unfortunately, India continues to test cosmetics on animals and market cosmetics with ingredients tested on animals. Worse, the Bureau of Indian Standards requires two painful animal tests for finished cosmetic products.

Dr. G N Singh, Drug Control General of India, is currently considering a ban on cosmetic animal testing in the country, after learning that the US FDA and EU do not require it.

There is no reason for cosmetics to be tested on animals, and the US and European markets offer many cruelty-free alternatives. Most of the dermatological market in India consists of skin-lightening products which are harmful to human skin in addition to being unnecessary. Please sign the petition to support a ban on animal cosmetic testing in India!
