Restore and Manage Jean Sweeney Open Space By Creating A Community Farm

  • da: Mali Mcgee
  • destinatario: Alameda City Council

Please support wildlife, food security and living wage jobs by signing this letter of support to be presented to the city council of Alameda.

We propose:
Five acres of the Alameda belt line should be restored and managed to provide wildlife habitat.

The belt-line property is a 22-acre stretch of open space with invasive weeds and industrial debris that may house vermin.

Research shows that livestock are an effective land management tool. They can rebuild and remediate toxic soil, manage brush, and provide nutrition.
The restoration should be done using livestock (goats, sheep, chicken, pigs, bees, turkeys).

The animals and land restoration will be managed by professional farmers/ecologists hired by a non-profit collective. The animals will rotate throughout a five-acre area occupying a fraction of land at a time.

The livestock will be owned by a non-profit collective.

Anyone can become a member of the collective by purchasing a share.

Dear Alameda City Council

This is not your typical farm, by using traditonal rotation grazing techniques walking through this land will be like hiking in Yosemite.
