Urge the Government to Stop a Residential Development that Will Destroy Vital Habitat of the Powerful Owl and Gang-Gang Cockatoo

A proposed development near Lane Cove National Park is threatening one of only the breeding areas for Powerful Owls and Gang-Gang Cockatoos near Sydney, according to a story in the Sydney Morning Herald.

Listed on the vulnerable species register, Powerful Owls require large tracts of wooded territory to live and raise young. The owl also requires trees that are around 150 years old in which to nest.

A family of Powerful Owls live near the Byles Creek Valley in Beecroft, North-West of Sydney.

However, residents who live nearby and who have been monitoring the owls are worried that a proposed residential development will encroach on the space the birds require.

The residents are worried that 85 per cent of the tree canopy and most of the understorey of the forest habitat will be lost - this is vital to the owls, as well as last Sydney's last breeding population of Gang-Gang Cockatoos.

The habitat of the Powerful Owl and the Gang-Gang Cockatoo must be protected against human greed.

Will you join me in urging the NSW Government to stops the proposed residential development that will destroy vital habitat of the Powerful Owl and Gang-Gang Cockatoos?
