Enough Explosions: Tighten Rules on All Oil Rigs

Big Oil has tried to tell us that the BP oil spill is an anomaly. They've blasted President Obama's six-month oil drilling moratorium as an unnecessary job killer and fought against regulations that would make drilling harder but safer.

But just as the Gulf was beginning its recovery from the months-long spill another oil rig has exploded of the Louisiana coast, and the Coast Guard has already seen an oil sheen coming from the blast site. This same shallow-water rig has been the site of at least four accidents in the last ten years.

What more proof do we need that we need tighter safety regulations on oil rigs in the Gulf? Tell Interior Secretary Ken Salazar to stand by the moratorium and enact stricter laws on offshore oil drilling operations at all depths to prevent any more Gulf disasters.
Dear Secretary Salazar,

As if the months-long BP oil spill wasn't enough, now another oil rig has exploded off the Louisiana coast, and the Coast Guard has already seen oil sheens in the water.

Mariner Energy's Vermillion oil rig has been the site of at least four accidents in the last 10 years, including 2 fires. This is just proof that depth doesn't matter -- All offshore oil drilling carries serious risks for the environment and the safety of workers.

After the Deepwater Horizon spill and now this, it's clear we need better regulations on offshore drilling. Please, stand by the six-month deepwater drilling moratorium and enact stricter regulations to prevent any more Gulf disasters.
