Support The Creation Of California's Cotoni-Coast Dairies National Monument

The land that makes up the proposed Cotoni-Coast Dairies National Monument is rugged and beautiful. Located on Santa Cruz's north shore, there are vast coastal terraces, rolling hillsides and mountain ridgelines that plunge into deep riparian canyons.
Once home to coastal dairies, the land is now habitat for a variety of rare species like steelhead, coho salmon, red-legged frogs and mountain lions.
The area was once inhabited by the Native Americans known as "Cotoni," part of the larger cultural sphere of Ohlone Indians in the San Francisco and Monterey Bay region. There are currently four documented registered ancestral Native American archaeological sites on the property.
The Coast Dairies lands have also played a central role in the history of northern Santa Cruz County. The property supported Swiss dairy operations for many decades and beginning in the 1960's numerous attempts to develop the land were thwarted.
It's time to protect this spectacular land as a national monument. This designation would provide permanent federal protection for the 5,800 acres of land owned by the Bureau of Land Management and increase access to federal funding and other resources.
As a Californian, your support is very important. The Obama Administration and Congress are going to evaluate our proposal in large part by judging how actively our community supports this idea.
Sign and show your support for establishing the Cotoni-Coast Dairies National Monument under the California Coastal National Monument Expansion Act.
