Cut Down Fatal Accidents in Children by Half

A recent report issued by the United Nations found that 2,000 children around the world die from preventable accidents every day! Thousands more suffer non-fatal injuries, potentially resulting in long-term hospitalization or life-long debilities.

Road traffic crashes, drowning, burns, falls and poisoning are the leading causes of child death from injuries, particularly in developing countries. "Each such tragedy is unnecessary," says Dr. Ettiene Krug, Director of WHO's Department of Violence and Injury Prevention and Disability. "We have enough evidence about what works. A known set of prevention programs should be implemented in all countries."

The number of fatalities resulting in accidents could be cut in half, if governments around the world implemented measures that have been proven effective.

All children deserve the right to live in a safe environment. Tell newly appointed Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to pressure governments to invest in intervention programs that save children's lives.
