President Obama: A Wish for Colorado's Forests
Colorado's national forests recently received an early holiday gift when the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver upheld the Roadless Area Conservation Rule as the law of the land. This popular conservation policy protects some of the best backcountry America has to offer, including 4.4 million acres of undeveloped forests in the state.
But the Obama administration is moving forward with a plan that would exempt Colorado from this landmark policy and allow expanded mining, new drilling, and other industrial activity in some of the state's wildlands. This would give Colorado's national forests less protection than the rest of the country has, and it would threaten outdoor recreation, fish and wildlife habitat, and water quality.
Please tell President Obama: Give Colorado the gift that keeps on giving. Ask him to enforce the Roadless Area Conservation Rule in Colorado and protect our national forests for future generations to enjoy.
As a resident of Colorado, I want our national forests to be protected. That is why I am pleased that the Roadless Area Conservation Rule recently was affirmed as the law of the land by the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver. This popular policy protects some of America's most prized and sensitive public lands from industrial development and degradation.
But right now your administration wants to exempt Colorado's national forests from this important conservation policy and open some of the best backcountry in our state to expanded mining, new drilling, and other industrial activity. Colorado's national forest roadless areas provide critical habitat for fish and wildlife, and clean drinking water for millions of our residents while also supporting the state's $10 billion outdoor recreation industry.
