Protect Our Lakes and Rivers

Last year, Stephen Harper and the Conservatives removed environmental protections from hundreds of thousands of lakes and rivers in Canada.

Since the 1880s the Navigable Waters Protection Act has protected our waterways. It required all development projects to undergo a strict environmental assessment.

Right now - thanks to Conservative cuts - less than two percent of Canada's waterways – only 62 rivers and to 97 lakes are protected.

Canada's lakes and rivers are a public resource that must be protected for future generations. The Canadian Heritage Rivers are iconic symbols of our Canadian history, culture and identity.
