PM Trudeau: Lead the fight against malnutrition to save more children like Prahlad

Before receiving treatment for malnutrition, Prahlad weighed little more than a newborn child. His mum, Rehka, had tried everything she could to make him better, but Prahlad's condition didn't improve. "He could not even smile or play anymore," Rehka said.

Fortunately, Sabjaan, a local Action Against Hunger trained community health worker, quickly identified that Prahlad should be taken to our nutrition centre. Now five, Prahlad is lively, smart, and always keen to recite his alphabet and numbers to anyone who will listen.

Little Prahlad was one of the lucky ones. Every year, 3.1 million children die of malnutrition. Worldwide, some 55 million children under the age of five suffer from acute malnutrition, 19 million of these suffer from the most serious type – severe acute malnutrition.

Children don't have to suffer and die like this. A coalition of organizations – including Action Against Hunger Canada – have joined forces for the No Wasted Lives campaign to ensure that six million severely malnourished children are able to get access to lifesaving treatment every year by 2020.

Increasing access to treatment could save the lives of up to two million children – just like Prahlad – who die every year from severe acute malnutrition. But we need our government to stand with us.

Sign today and urge PM Justin Trudeau to sign on to the No Wasted Lives agenda and lead the global fight against the most lethal form of malnutrition and empower women to prevent and treat it.
