Send Nutritious Food to Malnourished Children

To decrease the risk of death from common childhood illnesses and prevent life-long health consequences, malnourished children need access to nutritious foods designed to repair the damage to their tiny bodies and promote healthy development.

Even the most ill, malnourished children in the world can bounce back when given a balanced, nutritious diet along with appropriate medical care. We know because this practice has helped wipe out childhood malnutrition in the United States.

Yet the U.S. government sends hundreds of thousands of tons of food aid overseas that lacks the proper balance of nutrients that malnourished children need to recover.

With changes to U.S. policy, we can save more children by making sure they get the critical food they need. Tell Congress to provide for better nutrition standards for young children in food aid by adopting the International Food Assistance Act of 2012.
Dear Member of Congress,

Because much of the food aid the US government currently sends overseas is not properly formulated for the young children who need it most, the children who receive this aid are sometimes still at risk for malnutrition and related health issues, such as impaired growth and development and increased susceptibility to disease.
