Stop Lower Yosemite Falls Project.

Yosemite National Park is planning to begin construction on the Lower Yosemite Falls project this spring.

If ground breaking occurs, it will disturb a very sensitive cultural area, a prehistoric Indian area, as well as a traditional gathering area still used by the local Indians. Congress has already allocated funds towards this and other projects. One project that will begin soon will devastate the area Indian community. In the area in question, there is documented over a mile of Indian Graves and funerary objects that have been dug from the ground by small animals for several months now.

The National Park Service refuses to protect this area. I believe that Indians all over the country should be appalled by this lack of concern for the area Indian Community and should strongly voice their concerns.

With the advent of the Yosemite Valley Plan many losses will occur to traditional areas, burial areas and recent historic areas within the National Park. Environmental issues exist also, and the plans for this Valley will do nothing less than remove all Indian history from the area as well as contribute to the ongoing Indian genocide that prevails in this country today. The Valley plan also creates Urban Sprawl within this beautiful wilderness area and reduces it to nothing more than income and profit for the Federal Government, once again, and eliminates the Indians who are historically from this area . Please call or write, and voice your concerns at once. Groundbreaking will begin soon. We have no time to lose in attempting to save this sacred ground from the ground breaking, and save our ancestral land!

This is happening more and more lately. It is as if the government senses our turning back to the ways of our ancestors and has stepped up their genocide campaign. Let’s get behind this one, folks, and see if we can make a difference."

Also comments may be addressed to Scott Gediman, or media and interpretation offices at the park. Comments can also be sent to Dave Forgang at the same address that is the Native American Liaison for Yosemite National Park.
