Stop the Suffering of Millions of Animals During Long-Distance Transport

Our animal transport regulations are worse than those in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the United States. Call on the Canadian government to do better!

Each year in Canada, 700 million farm animals are forced to endure transport in crowded trucks on their way to auction and slaughter, sometimes for days at a time.

Up to 2 million animals die during these trips. Of those that survive, millions more will arrive at slaughter plants distressed or injured from the journey.

The amount of time an animal can legally spend on a single trip in Canada is shocking – 36 hours for pigs, horses and chickens, and 52 hours for cattle and sheep. These animals are confined without requirements for water, active ventilation, or bedding and the drivers who transport them are not legally required to have any specific training.

Canada's "Transportation of Animals" regulations are being updated and will be open to public comment. The 40-year-old regulations lag behind the standards established in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the United States .

Sign the petition to tell the Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Federal Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency that you want strong animal transport regulations.

When the draft regulations are released for comment, we’ll email you with information on how to send your feedback!
