Australia is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. They are a treasured part of life in Australia, but they can also spell danger if there aren't watchful eyes protecting beach-goers from drowning.

That's where Surf lifesavers step in. Trained surf lifesavers spend more than a 1.3 million hours a year patrolling our beaches, pools and coastlines. Together they rescue around 12,000 people, provide emergency care to 35,000 and give safety advice to thousands more.

And that's every year.
