For too long, people with intellectual disabilities have been denied full access to society. This not only makes the world a lonely place for them; it also denies society as a whole of the innumerable valuable contributions those with intellectual disabilities have to offer. When schools, workplaces, and communities are restricted by boundaries based on ability, everyone loses.
But Special Olympics Canada has been working to expand accessibility in Canada for over 50 years by providing spaces where people with intellectual disabilities can fully participate, succeed, and be a part of a community of fellow athletes, volunteers, mentors, and coaches.
Accessibility is about breaking down barriers so that everyone, regardless of ability, has a chance to join in.
