Better tourism statistics for South Africa

TravelHub and Southern African Tourism Update are embarking on the long road of analysing everything - and we mean everything - that is wrong with South Africa's arrival statistics.

From their format, to their value, to how they're interpreted, we'll be looking at various issues that affect the tourism industry. We'll also be asking various industry role players to air their views on our current statistics.

The campaign is aimed at starting a collective movement between the industry and media to ensure that we derive better quality statistics from the powers that be in South Africa.
We the undersigned believe that the current published format of the South African tourist arrival statistics are no longer sufficient and do not serve the industry as they should.

I have signed this petition because I believe that the mentioned organisations need to band together and ensure that the industry receives proper arrivals statistics.

A list of current issues that have been identified as problems include:
- The lack of a %u2018driver%u2019 for sufficient statistics
- Is 24 hours enough to define a visitor as a tourist and what happens when South Africa is just a stopover to another Southern African country
- Separate business and leisure statistics
- The impact of ex-patriots on the statistics

By signing this petition, we are lobbying for better arrival statistics for South Africa.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter.
