Braydan's Law

On Monday, July 13th 2009, I went to go pick up my son, Braydan, after he had spent the weekend with his father. When I got to where I was to pick him up, no one was there. I called his father for an hour and then finally went to the police station. I police tried to contact him but he wouldn't answer. I had no clue where my son was or if he was ok. All the police could do is have me fill out a statement and wait. The policeman told me that there was nothing else they could do until the child had been gone 12 hours. 12 HOURS!!! My son could have been ANYWHERE in 12 hours. I didn't know what to do. I went home to wait and kept calling everyone I knew to see if they knew where he was. I got a call from the policeman around 3pm and he said that Braydan's father finally contacted him and he was in Superior. Superior is just a short ways from the Canada border so he could have easily left the country and who knows when I would have seen my son. My story has a pretty good out come though. I got my son back at 6pm that night. I thanked God I had him back. I talked to the policeman again the next day and he informed me that they were not going to take any actions against Braydan's father because Braydan was returned within 12 hours. I couldn't believe what he just told me. That's why I want to get this law changed. I got my son back safe and sound, but his father got away with keeping him from me for 11 hours. What would have happened if he did cross the border? Or got on a plane with him to somewhere over seas? I don't want this to happen again and I don't want anyone else to have to go through it so PLEASE sign this petition so we can change this law and make sure we can get our children back safely.
