As a board member of the National Adult Day Service Association and past president of the New Jersey Adult Day Service Association, we have been on the forefront of the Adult Day Care Industry to instil community awareness as well as good policy for our programs so that we can better service our seniors and disabled communities. The philosophy of Adult Day Care remains a crucial component to Senior Care in New Jersey and across the Nation. We provide supportive services and community based options to prevent early onset of institutionalization, emergency room visits, hospitalization and most of all withdrawal and isolation from society. We need to take care of our seniors...We need to continue to provide them with supportive services that work...Adult Day Care is a viable solution to the long term care continuum. What better service can you get within a 5 hour program? We offer transportation to and from your home, good nutritious meals and snacks, medical monitoring and treatment, therapy, therapeutic activities and socialization along with so many other services offered at these programs. Understanding Adult Day Care, you would understand that the rate of $70 a day just covers your costs. Comparing Assisted Living and Adult Day Care is like comparing apples and oranges...and if you ask any Assisted Living facility, they would choose not to take that client for $70 a day because they can't cover their cost either. Cutting costs to the Adult Day Care industry could seriously diminish our community supportive service options. Simply, Adult Day Care Centers will go out of business! This is a reality we need to face when we are so quick to cut programs and services. The bottom line is that our seniors need this service across the Nation! We need to continue to be committed to make individuals that make these decisions not only aware of the detrimental effects it would have on our society but also the positive effects it does present to our communities.
