Young Americans for Healthcare Reform
To our fellow peers:
As young delegates to the 2008 Democratic National Convention, we were elected to represent your votes. As you know, a record number of young voters turned out to elect Democratic majorities in Congress and President Obama, who are now working hard to reform our healthcare system.
Young people have a real stake in this debate- we are the least insured age demographic in this country. The Kaiser Family Foundation estimates that over 30% of Americans ages 19-24 are uninsured. Healthcare reform will help our generation and all Americans get the health coverage so desperately needed.
Please sign our petition to say to Congress together: Enact the change that young Americans need and that you promised us- real healthcare reform with a public option to keep insurance companies honest and rates affordable.
In solidarity,
Your Delegates to the Democratic National Convention
We the undersigned, young Americans from across this nation, ask Congress to support President Obama's healthcare reform with a robust public option.
In 2008, a record number of us, many of whom had never cast a ballot or volunteered for a political campaign, became an integral part of the political process. Part of why we care about politics now is that we know firsthand how Americans are suffering under the burden of a failed healthcare system. Young people have a huge stake in this debate. The Kaiser Family Foundation estimates that over 30% of Americans ages 19-24 are uninsured- the highest of any age group. Indeed, many of us do not have insurance now because our jobs do not provide benefits, we are unemployed, or the rates are just too costly.
After a long and deliberate debate, we have reached the time of action. We ask you to help President Obama achieve comprehensive reform with a public option to keep insurance companies honest and rates affordable for young people like ourselves.
Show us that when we participate in the political process, our voices are heard. Please support the President%u2019s healthcare reform with a robust public option.
