The watchdogs who should be protecting us from products with the potential to harm are letting our nation down. We need to protect our young people!
Why are companies getting away with placing Energy Drinks and concentrates on the supermarket shelves of Australia without thought to the potential time bomb of health issues that will ensue?
The Ads on tv that are making them fly off the shelf with the idea that they are energy giving and in some way good for you is madness and our young adults will be the victims. My son admitted to me that he was drinking them to stay alert at work. I picked up a can and found that it had more salt in it than a large packet of chips and he said he was drinking a few a day! Long term damage from the sodium content alone will be a factor in kidney disease, hypertension and there are studies that point to the damage by the drinks to the lining of arteries. I do not want this for my children and think it is time to stop the use of such substances by PREVENTION. This is not cigarette smoking in the 1940s; we cannot plead ignorance when we do know so much more about the human body and how it works.
Our hospitals are already choked by those who have diseases relating to diabetes and smoking and it is a fact that kidney disease is increasing in Australia. So, why are we flaunting with disaster when it comes to what is being put on offer to our young;who are unwittingly consuming such products and who will ultimately be the ones who suffer? I do not want this for Australia and I do not want to hear in 7 years, someone muttering to themselves "I did not know" when they are hooked up to a dialysis machine! I also do not wish to hear of someone dying because their hearts gave out because of a cardiac disruption associated with energy drink consumption.

It is time for Australians to be smarter when it comes to reaching for the fast fix. Be aware and protect our young from this threat. The health minister of Australia has to get pro active and forward thinking.
Please, do not focus on one health initiative and ignore a looming disaster. We will all pay the price if you do.
Remove Energy Drinks from our supermarkets!
