There are too many assisted living, room and board, nursing homes, and apartment complexes that are licensed by the state of California that are not safe enough for everyday living. Some of these facilities have obvious building code violations. Some have rules and regulations that are not enforced by staff members. Some have both as well as other issues. This makes living conditions in some facilities dangerous.
There needs to be more government involvement, starting at the state level, to make sure that the buildings are inspected within the necessary timeframe. There also needs to be stricter laws, rules, and regulations to help improve livivng conditions at these facilities. There also needs to be stiffer fines, penalties, and possible imprisonment applied to those in charge of operations at these unsafe facilities.
We, as individuals, need to speak out and let the State know that they need to make it easier for us to report these unsafe living conditions and file a complaints whenever we feel it is necessary. We cannot continue to allow such a large number of licensed living facilities get away excessive mismanagement.
