The Hope Project

A project to give back hope to New Zealand youth suffering from Mental illness and the lack of facilites and treatment available.

Every year in New Zealand 1300 people will die from anorexia, 1 in 5 adolescents will suffer from depression, and 36,000 people will battle with an eating disorder. Due to lack of facilities for these people struggling, annually New Zealand sees 510 people commit suicide, 1/3 of these people are younger than 24.

For years the issue of adolescent mental health, and the lack of facilities, resources and funding available has been swept under the rug. Our aim is to raise awareness about the epidemic of mental illness and eating disorders amongst youth in New Zealand and the extraordinary battle each individual and their families face trying to find treatment, support and care for what they are struggling with.

We are a group of young women who have all battled with mental illnesses and eating disorders and had our lives threatened by them and the lack of facilities available to us. With your help we hope to convince the Ministry of Health that setting up facilities in which quality, supportive care and treatment is available to young people and their families for the treatment of Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge Eating Disorder, EDNOS (eating disorder not otherwise specified), Depression and other life threatening mental illnesses.

This petition has the potential to, in future, save every one of those 1300 sufferers of Anorexia who will die from their illness, and every one of those 510 potential suicide victims.

Please take a moment to sign this petition, and help save lives.
