Demand Congress Be Allowed to Inspect Trump's Prison Camps for Separated Families

Marco Antonio Muñoz fled Honduras with his wife and child. They feared for their lives after the killing of Muñoz's brother-in-law, and sought asylum in the United States. But Muñoz was violently separated from his family by U.S. border officials and placed in a detention cell — where he hanged himself on May 13.

Muñoz is neither the first nor last person to die in U.S. detention while seeking asylum from horrific violence back home. And yet, Members of Congress are not even being allowed to visit the prison camps where these people are being held. This is absolutely unacceptable.

Six days prior, the Trump Administration had made "zero tolerance" family separation the new policy at our border with Mexico. And just between May 7 - May 21, 658 children were separated from 638 parents. Muñoz's tragic fate is only one story of thousands untold of families cruelly separated, never to be reunited.

But when Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) tried to enter and inspect an immigration facility in Brownsville, Texas to examine the conditions of the children housed there, he was denied entry and was asked to leave the property.

If a Senator cannot see what's really happening, who will put an end to this? Add your name to demand that the Office of Refugee Resettlement allow Congress to inspect the conditions of their detention centers for children and put an end to Trump's horrific "zero tolerance" policy.
