Insist on a new auditorium at Pleasant Grove High School!

The auditorium at Pleasant Grove High School is original to the building, built in 1959. That's 57 years old! It seats just over 400 people, which is not even big enough to seat one grade at the school, let alone the entire student body of 1900! Considering all the activities, concerts, plays, assemblies, and community events that take place there, the Alpine School District School Board needs to include a rebuild of the PGHS auditorium in the proposed $386,000,000 bond that is on the ballot this year!

FYI, the proposed bond is at this web address:  http://alpineschools.org/bond2016/

If you look at the proposed projects, MOST of the money in the bond is to be spent in Lehi and Saratoga Springs.  We're asked to help fund by our taxes a $386,000,000 bond that will mostly go to schools children in Pleasant Grove, Lindon, and Vineyard won't use.  Meanwhile, our 57 year old school is in sad need of some upgrades, not the least of which is the school auditorium. Let's insist that this important building get the attention it deserves for our students and our community!

*Update* I learned today that the auditorium seats 756, which still isn't even half of the student body!  We need it to be bigger!

To the Alpine School District School Board Members: John Burton, Paula Hill, Wendy Hart, Brian Halladay, JoDee Sundberg, Scott Carlson, and Deborah Taylor,

The Pleasant Grove High School auditorium has served for 57 years as a place to gather for school concerts, assemblies, plays, and other activities.  It also serves our community for various functions.  We are grateful to have been beneficiaries of this part of Pleasant Grove High School.

However, the auditorium is 57 years old, cannot seat even one entire grade at Pleasant Grove High School let alone the entire student body of 1900, and is sadly in need of more seats, upgrades in technology, and more space to showcase the fabulous talents of students, faculty, and staff at Pleasant Grove High School.

We, therefore, ask you to include a rebuild of the PGHS auditorium in the proposed $386,000,000 bond on the ballot this year.  Most of the money in the proposed bond is earmarked for projects on the west side of Utah Lake, not affecting our area of Alpine School District.  This addition to the proposed bond would encourage voters in this area of the school district to vote positively on the bond.

Sincerely,

Constituents in Alpine School District
