The United States, and the rest of the world, can no longer turn a blind eye to the ongoing crisis in Syria.
Millions of people have been displaced by the country's bloody civil war. Hundreds of thousands - half of them civilians - have been killed. The Assad government and its Russian allies have been accused of using deadly cluster munitions and chlorine gas on civilians, including children. The country's economy has been obliterated, along with basic infrastructure like schools, hospitals and roads.
More action needs to be taken to help Syria -- and this does not have to include force.
President Obama promised to admit 10,000 Syrian refugees by the end of 2016. But that number is shockingly and maddenly low, especially when we consider that millions are in need.
Other countries have already taken in way more refugees than the United States plans to: Turkey has accepted 1.9 million, Lebanon has accepted 1.1 million, and Jordan has accepted 629,000. The United State's promise to accept 10,000 refugees is an embarassment when we consider the actual need and the actions other countries have taken.
President Obama is holding a Summit in September for Syrian Refugees.

I strongly urge you to take action to help Syria. The United States can no longer turn a blind eye to the pain and suffering of an entire nation. Specifically, I want your Administration to create security in selected areas, protect and stabilize those safe zones and allow Syrians to rebuild their own country even as the conflict continues in other parts of the country.
