Urge Investigation of CDC Laboratories Using Animals for Research

It was not common knowledge by most the government-run laboratories in research are actually using live animals for research purposes.  As a result of this practice, many animals suffer and die in experiments that goes unnoticed and unpunished.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) was found to have a long history of violating animal welfare and federal laws and guidelines as documented by PETA. You can read the story and pledge for an investigation at http://www.peta.org/action/action-alerts/urge-feds-investigate-cdcs laboratories/?utm_campaign=101415%20Urge%20Feds%20Investigate%20CDCs%20Laboratories&utm_source=PETA%20E-Mail&utm_medium=Alert

Disturbing photos also surfaced as a result of the investigation with monkeys who have apparently suffered third degree burns on their arms and backs due to negligence and incompetence in these labs.  Other reports by the government details information on further suffering and cruel deaths of many animals in the CDC labs. Such reports are the result of a decade long documentation on abuse, neglect and incompetent issues in the CDC’s labs.

PETA now has major concerns regarding the lack of accountability, animal suffering and risky working conditions for employees at CDC.  We need to ask for a full investigation into the allegations and concerns at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The CDC is a government agency that also need to be subjected to federal inspections as any other laboratory and ensure that they follow stringent rules and reforms for the health and well-being of animals and their employees.  You can help us in our efforts by signing and sharing this petition.

Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW) – We strongly urge that you do a full investigation into the allegations of testing, poor conditions and experimentation of animals at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). These laboratories need to be subjected to regular government inspections the same as any other lab and conform to safe, clean and healthy standards.  The animals at these labs were found to be suffering unimaginable suffering and torture while also putting employees at risk.  As a result, many animals have died from hypothermia, hyperthermia and asphyxiation, just to name of a few of the fatalities through neglect.  CDC labs need to go through a thorough investigation and held accountable until they are held to more stringent rules, regulations and reforms for the health and welfare of the animals and employees.
