Stop using of GoGuardian!

GoGuardian is a tool that many schools across the United States have implemented to monitor students' online activity. However, far from being beneficial, it has become a source of frustration and anger among students, parents, and teachers alike. On top of that, it often blocks or restricts access to legitimate educational websites and resources that we actually need for learning.

Personally, I find GoGuardian incredibly intrusive and annoying. It's not just me; everyone I talk to hates it. They feel constantly watched and distrusted. Schools should be a safe place for learning, but GoGuardian makes us feel like we're under surveillance, not unlike prisoners. This feeling is widespread, and it's eroding trust and respect. It’s hard to focus when even basic research sites, reference tools, and learning platforms are randomly blocked for no good reason.

Moreover, there's a growing concern about privacy. GoGuardian claims to keep students safe online, but at what cost? There's credible evidence that suggests GoGuardian might be collecting far more data than necessary. This includes potential access to personal messages and search histories, which should remain private under student privacy laws. At the same time, it limits our ability to learn by over-filtering and blocking harmless, school-related content that teachers sometimes ask us to use.

It's crucial to prioritize the mental well-being, privacy, and actual learning needs of our students. Instead of invasive surveillance tools that overblock educational resources, schools should focus on building robust digital literacy programs that can teach students how to navigate the internet safely while still being able to access the information they need for assignments and projects.

I strongly urge educators, school boards, and district administrators to re-evaluate the use of GoGuardian. We need to explore safer, more ethical alternatives that respect our privacy, freedom, and access to educational content. It’s time for a change.
