George Washington's Headquarters, also known as the Elijah Miller house, is currently located in North White Plains. New plans are to deconstruct and move the headquarters to a new location at miller hill park, rebuild it, and have a county employee reside in it to take care of it, with having it open to the public only on certain days. Statements saying that Colonial Cement Factory is exacerbating the issue of the headquarters appearance but lets remember what was there first.
The Elijah Miller house was built around 1738 by John Miller and occupied 600 acres of farm land. During the revolutionary War it was used by General George Washington as a headquarters command post for the Battle of White Plains. General George Washington occupied the house three times, once in October of 1776, then the summer of 1778 and finally in 1781. The headquarters still contain historical artifacts from the 18th century.
Once a historical and educational museum about our towns past, the house is now in ruins and needs desperate repair. It also no longer sits on 600 acres since that has been sold off and is now residential area as well as the colonial cement factory.
We the residence of North Castle and Westchester County, want to keep and fix the headquarters where it currently resides, and to save what little of its historical land is actually left. Also once repaired, to reopen the historical site daily to educate younger generations about our towns historical past.
