On June 23, 1978 my mother Rebecca Jan Wilenius was raped and murdered. The murderer, Gaylord Evan Painovich, CDCR# C15199 then proceeded to get rid of any identification and dumped her body on the Hollywood Hillside. This happened when I was only four years old. During my childhood, I constantly asked my family where my mother was. I was told she ran away. Every birthday wish was only for her to return home. None of my family ever actually knew whatever happened to her. Her parents lived their whole lives never knowing what happened to their first born child. At 19, I began my search to find her. I spent my entire adult life looking for her. I am now 43 years old. I finally found her, a needle in a haystack, but there is no happy ending to this story. All this time she was a Jane Doe by the hands of this man, Gaylord Evan Painovich. And he killed as a minor and was set free only after a year. This all happened before he got my mother. How do we know there are not more victims? And what about all of those family members that he hurt from both of these families. Not only was I robbed of my mother but my four children were robbed of their grandmother as well. He is currently being granted an advanced hearing date. He received life in prison.
