Pedestrian Crossing for London Road Westcliff

On Monday 10th October 2011 Six-year old Joseph Ball died following a hit and run crash on London Road Westcliff.

There are two crossings on the stretch of London Road between Milton Road and Hamlet Court Road. These crossings are some 400yards apart. Joseph was hit by a motor cyclist virtually between the two by the junction of London Road and Balmoral Road.

It would be practical to install a pedestrian crossing near the Balmoral Road junction, as this is used by both parents with young children during school times. and is also used by the elderly residents at the sheltered accommodation located on the corner of Balmoral road. Why should pedestrians be made to walk 200 yards or more to cross the road.
