Let me start off by introducing myself: My name is Gavin and I am a car salesman.
Now that we've got that over with, some history: I have been at the same place of employment for the past ~ 2 years and 3 months. In that time my workplace has gone from allowing the only facial hair to be a mustache - to, at the beginning of 2017, allowing clean cut beards. This was an enormous stepping stone for my employer and for a fellow like me, a great privilege to have!
During the past 7 months I have spent some time in figuring out what kind of styling I like best, and really trying to determine what type of facial hair compliments my face the best. I'm not the kind of guy who can grow some stubble out, and instantly look like a GQ model - so this took a great amount of trial and error.
In my search for what kind of styling would was going to make me look like a young George Clooney, I confided in my barber to point me in the direction he thought would be best - the result?: A masterpiece that included a skin tight A+ fade on the sides, a disconnect where the stache and beard would normally meet. He made me look like I was straight out of a Peaky Blinders episode. Never in my life had I felt more confident, or better looking. The goal was to get a nice even hair length in the Mustache to really give it the volume and curl that it deserved. It was a moment in my life where I finally felt like I had found my place. I had found the "look" that I was born to have.
Fast forward: After a great investment in many different types of beard oils, a mustache wax home-made by my barber, and a couple containers of Tip Top Pomade, my beard and mustache finally were given the chance to achieve their full potential.
During this time kept the lines on the beard clean, the length of the beard according to the guidelines my work had set, and my mustache always looking clean and styled nicely.
Since it has reached its full potential, I have been given grief about it at work. They tell me that it does not follow the "beard guidelines" that have been set forth. They have reluctantly said that if i shave the rest of my facial hair off, then "they guess" I am ok to keep the mustache.
I have asked them multiple times why this is the case, and they never have a straight answer for me. I have hit them with the fact that, as a salesman, I really am trying to set myself aside from the other sales people - make myself unique. I have stated to them, that I have in no way felt like I have "stretched" the rules, and that I do all that I can to look as dapper as I can every single day at work. They have not disagreed.
The gist of it, Is that the GM here does not personally like the style of the mustache. I want to throw out there, that I 100% understand that he is the boss and he makes the rules, and it is my job as an employee to respect that. In turn, have created this petition to show a representation of how many people really do like the 'Stache, and how many people really do think that I should keep it. I feel like it benefits me in the workplace, and that it really does give the the confidence, good looks, and an instant sense of trust with people who walk on the lot, whom I have never even met.
Chances are, the stache will have to go... and in turn I will be left to once again, look like an average, medium husky car salesman, desparate to get the sale. Your support is much appreciated and is put here to help me cope with the upcoming dissapointment.
In the meantime... Help me SAVE THE STACHE!
