Demand an end to President Trump's defective July fourth plan for Mt. Rushmore Now.

Unless it is stopped, Donald Trump is going to have a huge fireworks display at Mt. Rushmore. This is a very bad idea and must not be allowed to take place. He wants it to be a comeback celebration, and it is expected to draw thousands of people from across the country. There is a combination of three things involved that make this a bad idea. 1) Fireworks pose a huge fire risk due to the dry, flammable vegetation in the area. The ponderosa pine which are prevalent in the area are highly flammable. Fire experts agree that fireworks at Mt. Rushmore are always a bad idea if they have extremely dry vegetation, which they do this year. The area is experiencing abnormally dry conditions. 2) Thousands of people are planning on coming from all around the country and that puts people's lives at risk due to COVID-19. 3) There are also water pollution concerns. A 2016 survey found that there were elevated concentrations of a neurotoxin called perchlorate in the local water supply due to fireworks. That toxin has been linked to brain damage in infants.
