The season premiere of Saturday Night Live, which aired October 3, 2015, made two references to the American dentist who murdered Cecil the lion earlier in the year.
The first, during the opening monologue (sung by Ms. Cyrus), had Mr. Killam costumed as the dentist, smiling and miming shooting a rifle.
The second was a piece during Weekend Update when Mr. Che alluded to a recently discovered species of sea turtle that was promptly shot by a dentist.
The latter "joke" elicited an audible groan from the studio audience, which should have indicated to the SNL staff that they grossly misread what its audience finds humorous.
Ms. Cyrus, incredibly, sang later in the show about dreaming of being on Safari and encountering a lion! Unless people stop shooting them, zoos and dreams will be the only place to see them soon.
That Mrs. Clinton, a United States presidential candidate, agreed to appear on this show demonstrates incredible insensitivity to her constituency.
Saturday Night Live, Ms. Cyrus and Mrs. Clinton owe the viewers a sincere apology.
