Save Golf Course Goslings!

It's no news that golfers hate geese. But a Sunriver, Oregon golf course maintenance worker has taken that to a whole new level. Joseph Seevers is in custody for deciding to shoot a whole family of geese, including the babies, with an air rifle. I guess he thought they were nuisances. One gosling was killed outright, and the other was severely injured.

Golf course geese need and deserve the protection of the law. Golf courses have displaced their natural meadow habitats. Where geese see large stretches of grass and water, they will naturally wish to land and feed.

Please join me in asking Oregon state legislature to write a law that specifically protects migratory birds on golf courses and prohibits everyone from harming them. Migratory birds are defined as any species of bird that has historically migrated.

Dear Oregon Legislative Members:

I was appalled to learn that a golf course employee took it upon himself to kill a family of geese. In the grand scheme of things, the geese have more right to that land than the golfers do. Golf courses have displaced the birds' natural habitat. So, of course, they will settle on grounds where they see grass, trees, and water. In many regions, golf courses are the only thing that remotely resemble the goose's historic meadow. Please write a law that specifically protects migratory birds on golf courses and prohibits everyone from harming them.
