Paid Maternity leave is a controversial subject I believe in the U.S. but it is something that is needed for a civilized society. We are one out of only four countries that does not have paid maternity leave for mothers and fathers. This matter is unspoken in a lot of places because no one thinks that anything can be done about it. This is the time for change and with help we CAN make it happen.
There have been multiple cases where mothers have had to leave their newborn children in the hospital alone because they could not financially take off of work. Programs like FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) are good programs allowing women up to 12 weeks off work during childbirth but all unpaid. How many people are fortunate enough to say that they could take off of work for 12 weeks and still be able to keep their homes, vehicles, or food? The answer is very few..
I understand just like many others that this could be abused by so many so i do understand that restrictions do need to be placed but that does not mean that we cannot make it happen. With your help we can take away the hardship that so many families have during the time in their lives that should be more joyous than any other.
