Some people sell drugs, steal, prostitute themselves, con, etc, because maybe they're stuck in a difficult situation. A lot of "fathers" don't want their kids, and the mothers face the consequences and visa/versa. The mothers may have to work the streets depending on their circumstances most jobs just don't cut it for single parents because the pay may be too low. This petition is about crimes that are absolutely not worth serving life, or even "just" 5 years.
These are consequences not only the parent, but especially their children will have to face for rest of their lives. Crimes that should in no way take a parent from their child. Especially if the parent loves that child, and the child loves and needs them. The children are the ones who end up suffering serious consequences and pain, it may turn into a cycle, lifestyle, mental illness drug addiction etc, and most definitely a void that's not curable. Some kids are given up for adoption, if that's the only parent they had, also causing depression, anger, void, and a cycle. When the legal system takes a parent with good intentions away the child suffers the consequences.
I personally lost my father due to the legal system, he had good intentions and it took a huge toll on me and my mother. I'm a girl, 27 now, who was really attached to my dad as most girls are. Still to this day suffering the consequences, affecting relationships with friends, romance, and horrible outbursts on my mother, and it keeps getting worse as the years go by, mainly loss of will for not able to form a healthy family which is all that mattered in the first place.
(That's just my personal experience)
but I'm sure other children who went through a similar situation suffer from similar problems. It's pretty serious, inhumane, and unfair.
Please sign this for the broken family's treated unfairly by the system, for the sake of a better future for the ones suffering the consequences.
