MAKE HEALTHY FOOD THE FIRST OPTION AT CRESTWOOD HIGH SCHOOL

Since school has resumed, Crestwood High School in Dearborn Heights, Michigan has been serving two types of pizza: cheese and veggie, as the main option every day. This is not healthy and does not provide the right nutrients for our students, whose ages range from 13 to 18. Every child has the right to eat healthy and nutritious food that they can feel good about.

An important part of a student's day revolves around eating a balanced lunch with a main option that is not pizza, especially during an age where they are still growing. Being provided with the right food makes a huge difference for everyone, as many people at our school do not have the time or money to pack their own lunch.

According to high-schools.com, over 68.4% of students in the Crestwood School District receive free or reduced lunch, and this is one of the many reasons that students should be offered a healthier main option, as they are more likely to get school lunch everyday due to the fact that it is inexpensive/free.

At this moment, the district should come together and come up with a plan to guarantee that each student is able to get healthier food as a main option.

A fruit option is a must when paying for lunch, but what about our students' health?
